Vergennes Area Youth League

Registration for our 2021 season is now closed.

Little League follows a "League Age" for determining eligibility at each division, which varies between baseball and softball

Foam Ball

Foam Ball is all about providing your kids a fun and non-league, weekly baseball/softball learning experience. Coaches will provide your kids their first experience with the world of baseball/softball while your child develops self-confidence and joy for the game of baseball/softball in a fun, exciting and positive environment. Age-appropriate equipment, quickly-changing games and skill-building activities are used to teach your child baseball/softball within your 60-minute weekly class. We use high density foam balls, plastic and foam baseball/softball bats, bases, and tees.

This is NOT a drop off league, a parent or guardian will be expected to stay at the field for all practices and games.

Ages: Must be at least 4 years old by May 31, 2021 and no older than League Age 5
Practices: One 1-hour practice per week

Tee Ball

This is a hit from tee and learn the basics division. Our league Tee Ball program features structured learning through practices. Over the course of the season, coaches and parents will engage in a series of lessons utilizing up to 40 activities that include skills, drills and plenty of physical activity.

This is NOT a drop off league, a parent or guardian will be expected to stay at the field for all practices and games.

Ages: League Age 5-6 years old
Practices: One 1-hour practice per week

Farm Baseball & Softball

Farm League baseball is open to players that are at least League Age 6 years old and have completed 1 season of Tee Ball, and League Age 7 and 8 year olds regardless of Tee Ball participation. Players should not be more than League Age 8 years old.

This is a Coach pitch division meant to be a transitional option for players that want to successfully transition from tee ball to minors baseball.

Ages: League Age 7-8 years old (or 6 year olds who have completed one year of Tee Ball)
Practices: Two 1-hour practices per week (typically Tue/Thu)

Minors Baseball & Softball

It is recommended that players play at least one year of Farm League prior to Minors Baseball or Softball. Players should feel comfortable hitting off a peer pitcher and understand field positioning, base running, and the mechanics of throwing and catching a ball.

This is a player pitch division. Coaches will only pitch after a pitcher has walked three batters in a single inning.

Ages: League Age 9-11 years old for Baseball, League Age 8-11 years old for Softball
Practices: Two 1.25-hour practices per week (typically Mon/Wed or Fri)

Majors Baseball & Softball

The Majors division is full-fledged baseball and softball and focuses on refining basic skills with the ability to perform many of the advanced skills in hitting, fielding and/or pitching. The focus is on the continued development of hitting, pitching, base running and defensive techniques while expanding on situational awareness and game strategies. Majors is fully player-pitch; coaches are not permitted to pitch in competition.

It is recommended that child who is new to baseball/softball but falls under the Majors "League Age" play a year at the Minors level to better learn the game and build their skill level to ensure their safety during practices and games.

Ages: League Age 11-12
Practices: Two/Three 1.5-hour practices per week (typically Tue/Thu/Sat)
Competition: May play games against Majors teams outside of VAYL, dependent on local, state, and Little League COVID-19 guidelines.
